The question is, what are you focusing on? Are you focused on the negative around you or the positive?
I share a story about a speaker who had a white board on stage and put one dot in the middle of it. Everyone was focused on the dot and totally missed the rest of the white board. We tend to focus on our problems, or in this case, our chains, the things that are holding us back.
What if we changed our focus and started looking for the positive or opportunities that surround us?
For Christmas 2016, I gave my wife Suzanne what some would call a peculiar gift. I gave her a big jar with a lid on it. Actually, I gave it to us. We call it our Blessings Jar. Every time we get a blessing of some sort, we write it on a slip of paper and put it in the jar. Then when we hit a bump in the road, we can go back and look at the blessings. This helps us to refocus on what the positives are in our lives and how God is blessing us.
I will tell you, we frequently have to take pause in amazement with all the little things He is doing. We like saying, “Wow, I didn’t see that coming.”
We are constantly trying to keep our focus on the right things instead of those things that will drag us down. Are we successful all the time, well, no we aren’t. Sometimes the world and circumstances around us chain us up. Then we just have to shift our focus back to the positive, regroup, and restart with the right attitude.
I ask again, what are you focused on? Are you focused on all the mounting medical bills, or the fact that your spouse is beating a severe illness? Are you focused on hitting all the red lights, or the fact that someone just ran a red light and you would have been T-boned had your light been green? You get the point.
Watch your focus. Remember that God is still Sovereign. He knows what is best for us. Ask your coach to keep you accountable in looking for the positive. What? You don’t have a coach? We need to fix that.
