Are you uncomfortable enough to take action?

Sometimes God has to allow you to get a little uncomfortable so you can hear Him better.  Then again, sometimes you have to get a lot uncomfortable before you will take action.

Have you ever had a dream you wanted to pursue, but you didn’t know where to start.  Are you even on the right path?

I’ve heard it said that we only grow when we are uncomfortable.  How much do you need to grow?

What would it be like if your big brother was perfect?

Welcome to my world, I’m James, the half-brother of Jesus.  as the eldest of Jesus’ siblings, I watched Him for most of His life.  I followed Him in His every footstep.  I wanted to be just like Him.  He could never do anything wrong in our parent’s eyes.  Me on the other had, it seemed like I could never do anything right.  I was always getting in trouble and heard over and over again, “Why can’t you be like your big brother?”  If I had a shekel for every time I heard that growing up, I would be as rich as Soloman.

Well, enough of that. I want to share some stories with you about just what it was like to follow in His footsteps.  I remember playing hide-and-seek when we were young.  I could never find Jesus but He could always find me.  Then there was the time I just knew He would get a whoopin’ because he wasn’t with us as we were traveling back to Nazareth.  When we found Him, He was at the temple talking away.  Mother rightfully scolded Him.  “Yes, He’s gonna get it this time!”  No such luck, He talked His way out of another one.

Can you say miracles?

“By this time, it was getting late in the day.  His disciples came to Him and suggested that He send the people away to buy some food for themselves.  Jesus was getting ready to perform one of the biggest miracles of His ministry so far.

Jesus had a brief interchange with Philip and asked him, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these may eat?” Funny thing is that Jesus already knew what He was about to do.  He said to them, “You give them something to eat!”

As Jesus said this, He had a little smile on His face, almost as if to say He was playing a practical joke on them.  He knew exactly what He was about to do, He just wanted to see how they would react.

The disciples looked at each other and just laughed initially.  I wish you could have heard it.  They had so little food themselves; it was absurd to think they had any to give thousands of people.  The disciples started looking around, to see what they could find.  They did find one young boy with some food.  Andrew called out, “Jesus, this boy has five loaves and two fish.  But, how could so little feed so many?”

As hard as the disciples were laughing at the idea of five loaves and two fish feeding everyone, Jesus didn’t do anything other than tell them, “Bring the fish and bread to Me.”

What to Expect

Here Are A Few Excerpts From The Book

Imagine what it would have been like to have lived 2,000 years ago.  You are growing up in a typical Jewish home in the small town of Nazareth in Israel.  You are in a normal family, mother, father, and siblings.  Your father is a skilled carpenter, and your mother is the most balanced person you know.  She cooks, cleans, cares for the house and children, and even works in the fields when necessary.  You couldn’t ask for anything more.  Life is good.

Every day seems to be normal and just like the day before.  Sunday through Friday you do your regular chores, and Saturday is your day to rest and focus on spiritual things.  Life is predictable.

You are the second oldest of the children, which has its advantages and disadvantages.  You get to learn the ways of the world from your parents and older brother, while at the same time, showing your younger siblings what life is like.

I remember the times we would play other games.  If Jesus was playing with us, somehow, He would always win.  We could be playing hide-and-seek, and we would never find Him, but He always knew where we were.

I remember this one time when we were playing.  I was determined to find him, so I decided to cheat and peek.  I was “it” and started the counting.  “One Deuteronomy, two Deuteronomy, three Deuteronomy, four Deuteronomy, ‘There He goes, now I know His plan and which way to go to find Him”…  fifty Deuteronomy… seventy-five Deuteronomy…ONE HUNDRED.  Here I come.”

Off I go to find big brother but I can’t make it too obvious, so I find some of the others along the way.  I know I’m going in the right direction, but where is He?  How did He do it again?  I’ve looked everywhere.  Finally He calls to me from the opposite direction He went earlier.  How did He do that?  It was almost as if He could just walk through walls or even disappear.

By this time, it was getting late in the day.

Stephen H. Reed – a son, husband, encourager, keynote speaker, coach, entrepreneur, writer and storyteller.

At the age of 16, I was confronted with the reality that my family heritage was of no value when spending eternity with my Savior.  It wasn’t about who my parents were; it was about a personal relationship with Jesus which mattered.  Coming to a saving knowledge of who Jesus is and what His grace and mercy meant to me, I started this Christian walk.

Much like James, Jesus’ half-brother, my faith has grown every day as I see His hands at work.  While pursuing this project and others, I have witnessed one lesson after another.

As I reflect on my life, I realize I have only begun to learn who Jesus truly is and the depth of His grace and mercy.  I am learning new lessons every day.
